"We...get back on!"
Luckily, ESPN's hordes of undead were wrong. The Mets, unlike Derek Zoolander, are gymnasts. They went to the mat, got back up, and, as manager Jerry Manuel said, landed a crazy left hook on the Phillies. "Lasting effect" my ass, Stat Boy.
These Mets are not the 2007 Mets. These Mets have Johan Santana. These Mets have a rejuvenated Carlos Delgado, and they have the demonhunter Daniel Murphy (Brad Lidge has clearly made a pact with Satan to be good again, and Murphy cast him out). These Mets have Jerry Manuel, who can actually do the job he's paid for (unlike his predecessor). These Mets have resilience and strength. These Mets can get back on the horse in a way they just couldn't last year.
The Mets may make the playoffs this year. They may fall short. But one thing is for certain: the Mets of 2007 are dead. This is a new team. The collapse of last September will not happen again. If the Mets lose, they will do so with honor and guts. They will give it all until the end.
As a fan, that's all I can ask.
