When I heard rumors about this, at first I didn't believe it, but I have found the story and can now confirm it.
The head of Formula 1, Bernie Ecclestone, in an interview with the British newspaper The Times has reported said that Hitler had a great ability to "get things done." The paper also reported that he said in reference to democracy, "it hasn’t done a lot of good for many countries — including this one [Britain]," and that he prefers dictatorships. He also made the comment that it was a mistake to take Saddam Hussein out of power
Now here's the thing, from reading over this article a few times, Ecclestone seems like a pretty decent guy. Honestly, he does, I mean he condemned racism directed at black driver Lewis Hamilton, but still...Hitler? Saddam? Also "terrible to say this I suppose." You SUPPOSE? Are you kidding me? It is terrible to say, there isn't any questioning to it. Yes, I get the context you were saying it in, and I'm sure I've said something using Hitler to prove a point in a conversation, but I knew it was a horrible example to use. How can you question that?
Saddam could control Iraq, but just like any dictatorship, it was through fear. Sure, Hitler got things done, if by got things done you mean killing massive amounts of people whose only crime was being born. Seriously, what the fuck?
I get that a dictatorship may work in a business setting, but not on a world stage and those comments were way out of line. You have your right to an opinion, but all you've done is completely damage your sport and piss off a shit ton of people. Where is the gain from that? Comments like that are horrible and while they shouldn't be said to begin with, they especially shouldn't be said when you're in the public eye. Because you know, the leader of an organization claiming he wishes things were run more like dictators known for their human rights violations is always great for business.
