Ian Snell is consistently proving to the Pittsburgh that he no longer wants to be a Pirate.
Snell who is currently in AAA Indianapolis has made it public that he would prefer to stay with the team in Indy over rejoining the Pirates. Since being sent down to Indianapolis, Snell has an ERA of 0.34 with two wins.
The announcement from Pirates' GM, Neal Huntington, is not the first time the issues between Snell and the Pirates' Front Office have come to light. After a 17 strike out performance, he made some statements that revealed his dissatisfaction with the Pirates' organization. Recently Snell claimed that he believes he was made the scapegoat for the Pirates' struggles this season.
Pittsburgh is currently shopping the 27-year old right-hander, but are unwilling to swap with a team for anything less than what he is worth.
I'm not surprised this is going on and given Snell's openness to the media about personal problems he's dealt with, I can understand why he may be acting up. Sadly the struggles in his personal life may result in him staying in Indianapolis, as teams will be unwilling to give up a ton for him as his depression may cause GMs to stay away, fearing they may be sending a headcase out to the mound.
Snell is a solid pitcher who has suffered this year with a miserable start that resulted in his demotion to Indianapolis. My hopes are that he is able to be traded in a manner that benefits Snell and the Pirates' organization, but in the meantime I will heavily enjoy watching him pitch in Indy.
With that said, the things Snell has said about his teammates are inexcusable and I find it absolutely outrageous that a player would actually resort to staying in AAA instead of helping out his team. I understand the thought processes behind the actions, but selfish moves like that will never help a person's cause. While a few great starts in AAA may help your trade value, they are in the end, still only AAA starts.
The Pirates have stated that he will remain in Indianapolis, and that they are weighing trade options for him. Along with that, the front office said that he is likely to stay in Indy because he is contributing at that level and is not a clubhouse distraction in AAA.
